Senior Portrait Destination Session in London UK

It is always an honor when a colleague in the industry hires you to photograph their child. That is exactly what happened here. A photographer, whom I met at a photography conference, reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in photographing her daughter’s senior portraits. She wanted a destination session for her daughter and knew that is what I specialized in. We brainstormed some ideas and came up with London.

So off to London we went to create some amazing portraits for her. The challenge with this session was the timeline we had to work with. The week they picked was the week of Thanksgiving. I had some family commitments with the holidays, so this had to be a quick trip. I flew out Monday (landed Tuesday) and left on Thursday. This meant we had 2 days to get what we needed to get instead of my 3-5 days with most other international trips I do.

Complicating things was the weather. Weather in Europe is cold and wet in November. There are certainly days of sunshine, but expect overcast and wet conditions for the most part. So its important that I keep an eye on the weather and hope for the best. We did not set the shooting plan until 2 days before the trip. We picked Tuesday for the main shoot as it would be sunny and warmer. Wednesday was going to be overcast and rain off and on.

So we landed in London, took an Uber to the apartments we were staying in and then headed out for pictures. I try to avoid doing sessions on travel days so that the clients can adjust to time differences and relax a bit after flying for 8hours, but we had to do what the weather allowed us to do. So off we went.

We decided to do the iconic London portraits with the sun since we were doing long dresses that I am known to photograph. We would leave Wednesday as a day to do casual outfits and just deal with the rain. Here is what we created over those 2 days before I left to return home for Thanksgiving! We made stops at Big Ben, Westminister Abbey and other locations throughout London!
